New Year’s Resolutions

I’ll just be straight up about this one — I don’t do New Year’s resolutions. I never have. The idea that, “This year will be different. This is the year I’ll make a change.” doesn’t seem to be the right attitude for real change. And in fact, the vast majority of New Year’s Resolutions are […]

Christmas

Christmas is so different now that I’m a mom. A lot of people say that Christmas is for kids, and I think they’re wrong. It’s for adults with kids. Drake is thirteen months old now and I thought he might not be quite old enough to really get into Christmas, but he proved me wrong. […]

Babylon 5

My sincere apologies for failing to keep this blog up over the past few weeks. First it was birthday and Thanksgiving, and then my son got sick for the first time in his young life. Unfortunately, I was sick at the same time. (No sick time for mommies!) After that, I think I just had […]

Happy Holidays

Last night on the news they said that Wal-Mart has decided to go back to saying, “Merry Christmas” and that they are changing their “Holiday” displays back to “Christmas” displays. I have exactly one question about this: Why is this news? Seriously, was it a slow news day or something? If so, I can think […]

Let’s Talk Politics

I don’t often talk about politics. I’m not sure why not, because I am passionate and opinionated, but also willing to listen to other ideas and to change my mind. It seems to me that you just don’t talk about that is the name of the game in this country, but what a dangerous game […]

Halloween

Halloween is my favorite holiday. Call me crazy, but that’s just the truth. I’ve never gone broke on Halloween, or sat in the car for hours on end as I made my way to Grandma’s house. I don’t have any obligations, religious or secular. All I do is play make believe and eat candy. What […]

The Trouble With Being Sick

This may sound strange, but I used to like getting a little sick from time to time. Not so bad that I landed in the hospital, mind you, but bad enough that I could stay home, curl up on the couch with a mug of chicken soup, and watch the sort of movies that I’ve […]

Bragging Rights

It’s time to take some bragging rights in regards to my precautious son, Drake. He’s just seven months old and already he’s proving to be a very strong little boy. He started crawling before five months, cruising right on six, learned to pull himself to standing and sitting positions somewhere in all that, and is currently […]

I will be 30 next year…

I turned 29 on June 10th. Apparently, I now have the option of remaining 29 from this year forward. I will be 30 next year. This past year has been one of the best of my life. Since turning 28, I had the best baby boy in the world (no bias, of course) and sold […]

Birthday presents

My birthday is right around the corner and this year I received a great present from my parents — the Scooba from iRobot. This little saucer robot, twin to the Roomba, mops the kitchen floor for me better than I can mop it myself. My kitchen floor has never been so clean!
